| At the June 6 All-Officers’ meeting, a decision was made to seek pledges for a handicapped accessible entrance to the sanctuary that would also include access to the fellowship area. Three possible ideas have been presented: one is an addition on the North side, and the other two use an elevator. Officers are presently leaning toward the elevator ideas. A congregational meeting would be called to approve final plans. Cost estimates range from $40,000 to $50,000. Although that is indeed a lot of money, with many of us working toward that goal, it is achievable. |
| Along with our regular attendance on Sunday morning, everyone presently on the rolls will receive a letter asking them to be part of this project. We have a number of present and former members who live away from Pollock but yet have an ongoing interest in this church. If you know folks at a distance who have grown up here, or have been part of the membership at one time and found the church a blessing, please invite them also to consider a donation to this cause. |
| Why do we need a new entrance? We have people now who are having difficulty with stairs. We do not want to discourage visitors with handicaps from coming to church, as we do in some ways at the present time. It is not a pleasant experience to be in a wheelchair and have three or four men lift you up the stairs. Also we do not want to force elderly people to stay home on Sunday when they can no longer climb stairs. We want everyone to have access to our weekly fellowship. Each person is an important part of Sunday worship. |
| Right now we would like you to pray the question to Almighty God, “How much should I give to this work?” Keep in mind, what you are asking is over and above your present giving. This is a special offering to the Lord. It is His Church. Pray for wisdom and faith to do His will. |
| We will not be able to start the work until we have a majority of the funds on hand. Depending on the pledge support, we plan to have a special offering on August 6. By that date, we hope to have enough money to start construction. We are asking that the pledges be returned on or before July 22, either bring them to church or mail them to our treasurer for the project, Betty Van Beek, 418 Lakewood Drive, Pollock, SD 57648. For now, all we want are the pledges. |
